USAID/Egypt requested Integra to assess USAID- established and -supported economic institutions in the country since 2000. This assessment identified, categorized, evaluated, and analyzed the public and private institutions that were established, expanded their functions, or received general capacity strengthening from USAID/Egypt’s Office of Economic Growth (OEG). It assessed their sustainability and effectiveness and documented key sustainable or unsustainable factors, measured in terms of effectiveness or ineffectiveness, the continued existence of an institution, and challenges to establishing and sustaining those institutions encountered by USAID or the institutions themselves. The assessment was conducted in two phases. Phase One was a comprehensive desk study to provide an overview of OEG programming in Egypt, concluding with creating a summary report highlighting successes and providing recommendations for future activities. Phase Two undertook a more detailed assessment of a sample of these activities. The report highlighted 10 institutions that had received OEG support in the last 20 years. It identified factors that contributed to OEG support, resulting in sustainable institutions, and the factors that caused some institutions to remain unsustainable even with previous OEG support. The team also delivered a three-page infographic that is engaging and easily digestible so the findings, recommendations, and lessons learned from the report may be disseminated.
